Homeless shelters are gearing up for the busy season, when many who sleep outside will seek shelter from the bitter Northern Michigan winter nights. And this year, two new shelters are opening up in Northwest Lower Michigan. Neither has its own building.
The state appears to have smoothed over a flare-up regarding who can fish for walleye next year on one of the state's largest inland lakes.
The state court of appeals says the owners of Centre ICE Arena near Traverse City must pay property taxes.
In total, the governor struck out what may be a record number of 72 line items totaling $127 million dollars.

On the next "ArtForms," Brad Aspey talks with Traverse City filmmaker Rich Brauer. Rich's film, "Mr. Art Critic," has just been added to the Netflix catalog. Also, a talk with Patti Aiken. She's the author of a new children's book titled "Crossings." Each page of artwork was done by a different Northern Michigan artist. Also, Interlochen Dance Director Cameron Basden. She'll discuss an upcoming dance performance titled "Dance Revolution." It deals with the revolution that began with the Ballets Russe in the early 20th-century. And a profile of Beulah artist Robert Fitzke.

Suttons Bay attorney Dean Robb has been practicing law for six decades. His career has spanned the labor movement, the McCarthy trials and the civil rights era. In the late seventies he sued the FBI on behalf of the family of Viola Liuzzo, a civil rights activist slain in Alabama in 1965. He was also one of the first attorneys is the U.S. to successfully use the battered wife defense in a murder case. Dean Robb joins us this week on Points North, live at 9 a.m. with a repeat at 9 p.m.
