The Michigan Senate voted last month to lift the cap on charter schools in the state. The state house is poised to do the same possibly next week. Michigan has allowed a limited number of charter schools to operate since the mid 90s and the discussion about them has not changed too much. Julie Mack has covered education for twenty years at the Kalamazoo Gazette. She says neither the promises nor the fears have materialized to a great extent.
