The city of Frankfort will soon be handed the keys to the north breakwater lighthouse.
Senator Carl Levin announced yesterday that ownership of the 80-year-old Frankfort lighthouse will be transferred to the city under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act.
Last year that the U.S. Coast Guard told the city the lighthouse was no longer needed for navigational purposes.
Since then, the city has been working with the federal government to have ownership of the lighthouse transferred to the city.
