While large fires like the recent Duck Lake Fire in the UP grab headlines, there are many smaller fires every year in northern Michigan. More than 130 have caught in the Huron-Manistee National Forest so far this spring, burning a few acres each. And that number has been creeping up in recent years. Some communities up north are deciding this is an issue they need to address.
