A petition drive has been launched to stop drilling for oil and gas in deep shale formations in Michigan. But most environmental groups are not involved in that effort. Instead, they want state regulators to make sure hydraulic fracturing is done safely. Meanwhile, some legislators are focused on helping the natural gas industry expand. It’s one of the few fossil fuels produced in large volume in Michigan.
