Hear Rick Pluta talk with Peter Payette on Points North

By Peter Payette

This week, leaders of a petition drive to allow more casinos in Michigan announced they have the signatures necessary. If that’s the case, voters will decide whether to allow eight more casinos to open, including one near Cadillac.

Also this week the owner of the Ambassador Bridge announced he’ll have enough signatures to take his campaign against a second bridge to Windsor to the voters. Last week Governor Snyder announced plans for a new bridge were moving ahead.

These questions, if they survive, could be part of a long list of ballot proposals voters will have to sort through in November. Everything from renewable energy to the state’s emergency manager law could be up for review. There are so many proposals floating around that some public interest groups are urging a no vote down the list just to stand up against the practice of government by signature drive.
