The leaders of Munson Healthcare say the problems facing hospitals are pushing them towards consolidation. But a proposal to merge Munson with Grand Rapids-based Spectrum appears to have suffered a setback last week when Munson's President and CEO resigned. Traverse City is home to one of the finest hospitals in the country but the new head says he has to look further down the road than a few years if the region wants to maintain the level of care it now enjoys. How would a merger with Spectrum help? What would Traverse City have to give up? That's our conversation this week on Points North. Live at 9 a.m. Friday.

Munson Spectrum

I do not support the financial & management partnership between Munson & Spectrum. I did not support the takeover of Traverse City Community Osteopathic Hospital either. I did not support Munson when they temporarily tried to take over local Urgent Care clinics. If it's not broke don't fix it. Competition is good. Monopoly can be bad. Munson is just fine the way it is. Not perfect, but a good regional hospital. Let's keep it the way it is and support a locally based management. It about Grassroots Democracy! Peace, Tom
