Tom Harrison describes his son Alex as a strong, quiet person. But last February his strength was not enough to withstand the persistent cruelty of his peers at Cadillac High School. Alex Harrison took his own life at the age of 16. His father is now on a mission to convince teenagers that they are the ones who can prevent these tragedies. At the same time there's more pressure on lawmakers and school officials to stop bullying. But how? Is cruelty built into the social nature of children? That's our conversation, on Points North live at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Creativity

We should be teaching adults and students to appreciate our different gifts, talents and abilities. We are all different...if we weren't, we would all be the same and there would never be any new inventions, beautiful paintings, new music or dramatic theatrical works. Difference is what makes life magical. We should embrace it and celebrate the creative individuals that bring us innovation!

Bullying

I applaud Tom and PK Harrison for their courage and work in making a difference after their son took his own life because of bullying. Why do schools need to experience losing a student in order to take the bullying issue more seriously? I think the problem lies with the staff of the school and the bystanders who do nothing to help the bullied student.

Bullying story

Tom Harrison is my uncle. The tragedy our family has experienced in Alex's death is so close to my heart every day. Tom and PK have been such positive role models for every young person in northern Michigan's small communities, and their message of "See It. Hear It. STOP IT." is growing around the state. I am so glad you are showcasing this pervasive problem and speaking to Tom about it. He and PK are truly compassionate and have not lashed out at the community or the school in blame, but have embraced all those students and are spreading the message that no one has to, and no one should be, tolerating such behavior.

Alex

Heather could you please contact me or possibly your Uncle "Tom Harrison" I am a board member of a non-profit by the name Youth Champions, we are advocates for the victims and families that have been subjected to such tragedies as Alex. Sincerely ~Kathy
