Early next month, Traverse City Commissioners will vote on a plan to renovate the Whiting Hotel in downtown Traverse City. The project would receive some public money because it would create affordable housing and is a historic structure. But the use of tax dollars has come in for a drubbing from some city commissioners who say it is overpriced.
