Next year, the people of Michigan can vote to open up the state constitution for a rewrite. Proponents say if there was ever a time to reform government in Michigan, it's now. Critics say a constitutional convention will be a waste of time and money.

Michigans Constitution

If for only 5 minutes they reopen the State Constitution. That should be long enough to insert the word "Equity" into the language that deals with Public School Funding. Since 1994 and Proposal A, all residents of the State have paid the same amount of tax for Public Education, but since 1994 to this day there are schools in politically powerful districts that have managed because of that power to recieve almost double the amount of money less powerful districts recieve. There is simply no moral basis for this to continue, and the absence of an "Equity" clause in the state constitution makes legal redress for this wrong unavailable. The Political Bullies in Southeastern Michigan are successful for the same reasons that bullies anywhere are successful, there is no one powerful enough to stop them. . We need a constitutuion that stands like a good playground monitor, preventing this.
