Last October something horrible happened at Michael Kroupa's Farm near Traverse City. More than 400 cherry trees were cut down for no apparent reason. The crime has gone unsolved, and Kroupa wasn't the only one who's been hit by vandals in recent years. Mardi Link says four orchards and a vineyard in the Grand Traverse Region have been vandalized in this way, though none to the extent of Kroupa's farm. Mardi is a writer who has written a couple of historical novels about murders in northern Michigan. She's started investigating the case and launched a fundraising drive for her new project on Kickstarter.

She says police have few leads in the case.
