Since the late 90s a man from Manistee County has been cloning big, old trees around the country. Reporters show up in droves when David Milarch comes to town to clone an ancient tree. Now a science writer for the New York Times has written a book about Milarch and what his work might mean for the problems facing the world’s forests. Jim Robbins also gives a detailed account of how Milarch got started in this work, including his belief that celestial beings commanded him to preserve the genetics of surviving ancient trees. We’ll hear about The Man Who Planted Trees this week on Points North.
