Funding for public schools moved toward center stage this week in Lansing. Schools might have to carve as much as 10 percent out of their budgets to deal with cuts and rising pension costs. Protesters came to the state capital angered by plans to take money from schools while reducing taxes for businesses. In many districts the cuts may lead to showdowns between the administration and the teachers over salaries and benefits. equitable school funding cuts

Why should our Northern Michigan schools which have the least per-student State funding get hit just as hard as the ones downstate that still have fat to trim? Senator Howard Walker doesn't sound anything like Representative Howard Walker, who once fought hard for equitable school funding; I regret that I voted for him.
