A crowd is expected at the Mackinac Headlands tomorrow evening to view the Venus transit. The Dark Sky Park will have 200 pairs of glasses for visitors who want to safely watch the planet move across the face of the sun.

The parks director Mary Stewart Adams says the planet will be halfway across the sun right at sunset.

“We’ll be seeing the sun setting into Lake Michigan with Venus directly in front of it and I expect that’s going to be a very dramatic moment,” says Stewart.

Stewart says she’s not sure if Venus will be visible to the naked eye during sunset.

The Grand Traverse Astronomical society will gather at the Open Space in Traverse City for the event tomorrow night (June 5th). The transit begins just after 6:00pm.
