Most of Tahquamenon Falls State Park is back open today. The park had been closed since last Friday because of smoke from the Duck Lake wildfire.

A few of the park’s hiking trails will remain closed, including the North Country Trail.

Latest estimates show the lightning-sparked fire at 21,450 acres in size and about 55% contained.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources now confirms 115 structures have been lost, including 41 homes and cabins, a store and a motel. Garages, outbuildings and campers have also been destroyed. The number climbs as officials are able to inspect more properties within the fire boundaries.

Crews from Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota have been fighting the fire for a week.
