Post offices are usually open at least eight hours each business day, but that’s about to change as the postal service grapples with huge budget deficits.

The postal service is considering reducing its business hours in many post offices, in some cases down to two hours a day.

Brutus, near the Tip of the Mitt, is slated to have its hours slashed to two.

Copemish, between Traverse City and Manistee, is about to have its hours cut in half to four hours per day.

But the U.S. Postal Service office hasn’t finalized its plans. It’s holding public hearings over the next few weeks to help them decide how to close the budget gap.
