A staple of every morning at national political conventions is the big name breakfast speaker, and there are few bigger than New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. The Garden State governor has a prime time slot during tonight’s convention and he brought his star power to the Michigan delegation this morning.
Christie will deliver this evening’s keynote address.
He told the delegates they will play an important role in delivering Michigan to the Republican column in November.
“I was in North Carolina’s delegation yesterday,” he said. “I told them they are a state of consequence. They are a state of consequence because they are going to have a chance to make a difference in the presidential election. Michigan is the same way.”
Michigan’s G.O.P. delegates say they are looking forward to hearing Christie tonight. Mitt Romney’s wife Ann is also scheduled to speak. Interlochen Public Radio's live coverage begins tonight at 8:00.
This afternoon, U.S. Congressman Dan Benishek, representing northern Michigan, is scheduled to take the main stage shortly after 3:30pm.
