Hundreds of people lined up in Kingsley this morning to pay their respects to Marine Corps Sgt. Justin Hansen. Hansen, who was 26 years old, was killed in the line of duty in northern Afghanistan last week.

People stood quietly among American flags, military banners, and home-made signs as a motorcycle-pulled hearse brought his body home. Dawn Willman, who also has a son in the military, explained why she was there to support Hansen and his family.

“He gave his life for our freedom, for the reason that we’re all here and that we can raise our children and have our own opinions on everything and voice them freely.”

A procession including a group of motorcyclists calling themselves the Patriot Guards, took well over 10 minutes to make its way down Brownson Street.

Hansen a 2003 graduate of Kingsley Area High School, will be buried with full military honors in Traverse Memorial Gardens.
