Voters in the Village of Onekama have rejected a plan to dissolve their village government and become part of Onekama Township.

Already earlier this spring, the plan for disincorporation had failed to win the support of the village council. Had the public vote been successful, the village had no agreed-on plan of action for the consolidation.

Michigan has more the 1800 local governments and Governor Snyder wants to see them consolidate services, but plans to merge local units of government, like the one in Onekama, are almost always defeated.
