From Staff Reports

A letter from state prison, if authentic, may contain the first account from Sean Phillips about what happened to his missing daughter Katherine. Baby Kate disappeared in Ludington last June at four months old.

At 22-years-old, Sean Phillips was found guilty earlier this year of “unlawful imprisonment.” But the child’s fate and whereabouts remained a mystery throughout the trial and conviction.

The Ludington Daily News reports Phillips apparently penned a five-page letter from jail to the baby’s mother July 16th.

The author of the letter says he didn’t realize he had the baby with him when he drove away in a rage. He then ripped out the car seat and the baby was thrown. He said the baby is “in a peaceful place.”

The paper reports police are investigating the case as a murder.
