U.S. Senate Race
Pete Hoekstra has declared victory in the Republican primary race toward the U.S. Senate. Multiple news organizations agree, even as early results trickle in Tuesday night. Hoekstra will challenge incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow this November.

State House 101st
Businessman Alan O’Shea has won the Democratic Primary in the 101st State House District, 2674 votes to 2401. Derek Bailey, the former Chair of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, won his home county, Leelanau, and took Benzie County but O'Shea drew more than 1400 votes in Manistee County, where he was formerly a county commissioner. Manistee had by far the largest turnout of Democrats Tuesday with more than 2000 votes. O'Shea also won Mason County.

He'll go onto to challenge the incumbent Republican Ray Franz from Onekama in November.

State House 104th Grand Traverse County
Incumbent state Representative Wayne Schmidt easily beat his challenger, Grand Traverse County Commissioner Jason Gillman, for the Republican nomination in the 104th House District. Schmidt took 65 percent of the vote in Grand Traverse County, the only county now in the district which once included Kalkaska.

On the Democratic ticket, Betsy Coffia defeated Joseph Sloan 1833 to 1150. She'll face Schmidt in the general election.

State House 107th
Suzanne Shumway just edged out Jim Martin in the Democratic primary, 1731 votes to 1704. More than half her votes came from Emmet County. She lives in Petoskey. If the vote count stands, she'll challenge Frank Foster, also from Petoskey, who is seeking a second term.

Charlevoix County Prosecutor
Attorney Allen Telgenhof unseats embattled Charlevoix County Prosecutor John Jarema. Telgenhoff has won the Republican primary with 68 percent of the vote. There will be no Democratic challenger in the November election. All 20 precincts are reporting.

Grand Traverse County Sheriff
Incumbent Sheriff Tom Bensley once again gains his party’s nomination and faces Democratic challenger Joe McCarty this November. Republican Kevin Sandvig has conceded defeat to Bensley.
