It took roughly three weeks, but state officials now say the Duck Lake Fire is completely contained. The 21,069-acre fire is north of Newberry and west of Tahquamenon Falls State Park campgrounds in the Eastern Upper Peninsula.

All roads are again open to the public, but the state Department of Natural Resources has closed an ORV trail indefinitely because of fire damage.

In all, 136 structures were lost to the blaze, including a motel and a store and 47 homes and cabins. Other structures include campers, garages and outbuildings.

The Duck Lake Fire is believed to have been caused by lightning in late May. Drought and heavy winds made the fire highly volatile and fast moving during the early days of its spread.
