The National Hockey League prospects tournament in Traverse City has been cancelled, for the first time since it came to town in 1998.

A press release from the Detroit Red Wings says it’s been cancelled because of the possibility of a player lockout next month.

The tournament was supposed to take place September 15th. That same day players’ current collective bargaining agreement expires.

The Red Wings created the program to develop young talent.
