The state has confirmed the presence of a cougar in the Upper Peninsula. A man in Baraga County took a photo of the animal.

State wildlife officials say this is the 15th time the presence of a cougar has been verified in the U.P. since 2008.

They say cougars in Michigan are transient animals, sometimes wandering in from North or South Dakota, where there are established populations.
