The Traverse City Area Public Schools have ratified a new contract that freezes salaries for 89 custodial and maintenance employees.

TCAPS estimates this will trim more than $173,000 from its budget for this year, and again the next year.

The agreement also ends overtime pay for weekend work, and it requires higher prescription co-pays and annual deductibles.

In February the TCAPS Board voted to cut three million dollars from the amount of money it spends on employees. Some of that savings still needs to be negotiated with other unions, including teachers.
