By Bob Allen

Tonight, the Emmet County Board of Commissioners could vote to prohibit any commercial business that would dispense medical marijuana.

It's an approach opposite to the one being considered in Traverse City, where officials are attempting to accommodate uses and exchange of medical marijuana that are approved in a new state law.

Emmet County is deferring to long standing federal law that prohibits using or growing pot.

Reporter Brandon Hubbard has been following the issue for the Petoskey News Review. Listen to the audio above for his discussion with IPR's Bob Allen. Hubbard starts by explaining why the Emmet County Planning Commission is recommending this approach.
