Traverse City Commissioners will take up the issue of roundabouts again tonight at a study session.
Many questions remain about how a series of roundabouts could be built along Division Street to slow traffic, including whether the public will support the idea.
One issue the commission could resolve tonight is whether a divided boulevard is a viable alternative. If the city wants to build a median along Division that proposal could go before voters as early as August.
Supporters of the roundabout plan say making Division into a divided boulevard will do little to make it safer and more pedestrian friendly. The earliest voters would be asked to approve a plan for roundabouts would be November.
Voter approval is needed for either project because some city parkland will need to be given to the state to widen the road.
