One of Benzie County's most renowned retail businesses sat out the holiday season.  Gwen Frostic's antique printing presses are idle and their future is uncertain.  The business, which made Frostic a millionaire many times over, was caught up in the bankruptcy of another local business.  But it's not entirely clear who now owns the rights to print and sell her popular artwork.  Eric VanDussen reports.

Gwen Frostic/Kirk Lorenz

Mr. VanDussen could have spent a little extra time with verification, or at least collecting some alternate viewpoints from the Benzie County community. Honor State Bank has always impressed me as a VERY community oriented organization. The tone of this story was that of a David -V-Goliath and not of the reality of the situation. The Lorenz's have had a share of trouble lasting for years and inherited their claim to Frostic's empire in the midst of the years long process of liquidating their own. The real tragedy here is that the historic and beautiful Gwen Frostics store and grounds have been caught up in this saga and allowed to deteriorate by neglect. Let's hope the new owners have a better run than their predecessors.

Gwen Frostic's

Oh, for Heaven;s sake, Gwen Frostic's is regional, state, and national treasure. The business and its integrity MUST be preserved.

Gwen Frostic

It is so sad that someone or something could end the future or mare the the gifts Gwne Frostic presented to the world. It is like stealing her artisry from future generations. She had entrusted someone with her gifts and whoever they are they have let not only her down but all who appreciated what she had shared. Hopefully someone will find a way to preserve her light.

gween was not a saint. she developed an excellent business, part of how she did this was "Ann Rands" phlosophy ... your all here for me, my mignons. very few of her employees, if any, earned above min. wage. she entrusted it to others who feel the same way but this time, greed loses. the giant sucking sound is almost complete.

gwens

Lorenz and his wife needed to stay in the restaurant business, they were successful until they got greedy and now they are losing everything. its about people, not ideologies and evil community banks. They forgot that years ago.
