Students in the region's largest school district have the rest of the week off.
All Traverse City Area Public Schools are closed through next Tuesday, November 3rd - as are schools in Kingsley, and the center-based programs of the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District.
School officials ask students and staff to stay home. Associate Superintendent Jayne Mohr says - even if you feel healthy - you may have been exposed to H1N1 swine flu. And that means you could also help it spread.
"So avoid going to the mall, avoid theaters, sleepovers, parties, the kind of socialization that might be occurring if for reasons other than school being closed for a pandemic illness," Mohr says.
Health officials say the illness is still on the rise in Northern Michigan.
Pending access to vaccine - they hope to start inoculating students in schools next week.
All school activities are cancelled for the week.
Monday was already scheduled as a day off for students. The teacher training day will go on as scheduled. And students report back Tuesday, November 3rd.
Meanwhile, the area's largest parochial school plans to remain open. Officials with the Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools say parents will need to arrange rides to-and-from school until the public school buses start running again.
The Interlochen Center for the Arts is also limiting its boarding students' access to Traverse City, cancellng regular bus routes to church services and shopping.
