Advocates of early-childhood education are bristling against the budget passed in the state Senate before its summer break. Budget wrangling at the state Capitol is far from over, but the Senate's current budget includes cuts in per-pupil K-12 funding, as well as the elimination of early-childhood abuse-prevention programs, and cuts in childcare.
It would also eliminate the state preschool program, called Great Start Readiness.
That program is key to Superintendent Randy Howe's plans to keep his poor district improving under No Child Left Behind. He talks with IPR's Linda Stephan.
