It’s Smart Commute Week in Traverse City, a week when people are encouraged to try a new way to get to work with bikes, carpooling, walking or using public transportation to get around.

And today, the Bay Area Transportation Authority is offering free rides on its Cherriot bus routes.

Angela Stricker is taking full advantage of the free ride,

She’s taking her lower elementary students on a field trip from their TCAPS Montessori classroom on Oak Street to a bowling alley across town on Garfield.

Stricker says getting the 6, 7, 8 and 9 year old kids involved in Smart Commute week fits right in with other efforts at the school.
