Tourism spending jumped by eight percent in Michigan last year, researchers say. An annual tourism report from Michigan State University also anticipates a continued six percent growth for 2012.

That's despite gas prices that continue to rise. Researchers believe the key factor to a healthy year in Michigan tourism will not be gas prices, but good weather for the summer travel season.

Spending on the state's Pure Michigan advertising campaign has also been on the rise as more municipalities are partnering with the state to highlight their local areas.
