A 300-year-old violin valued at $20,000 dollars has been recovered today by the Traverse City Police Department. It was taken from a Sixth Street home as part of a break in Friday afternoon, officials say.

Police allege the violin was stolen after someone broke out the window of a back door to the empty home. A second violin was also taken, along with other valuables.

The violins were brought to the police department today after the people who had them read online news reports of the theft and recognized the instruments.

Police are still trying to determine who took the violins.
