Two shipwrecks have been discovered in northern Lake Huron, according to leaders at Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

They say they've found and identified the M.F. Merrick. The 138-foot schooner collided with a steamer in dense fog in 1889. Today it rests upright on the bottom of Lake Huron.

A similar accident sank the 414-foot freighter Etruria in 1905.

A documentary film is due out in August.

Students from Saginaw took part in the discoveries. Find out more here.
