A 31-year-old Elk Rapids High School graduate was killed over the weekend during an off-road rally in Washington State. Mathew Marker was competing in the Olympus Rally, part of the Rally America National Championship Series.

Officials say Marker's car went off the road and hit a tree.

They say it was the first race-related fatality since 2003.

His co-driver, Christopher Gordon from Minnesota, was not seriously hurt.
