Traverse City is asking trash haulers to submit bids to service all city residents.

Right now residents hire whatever company they choose to have their garbage picked up.

City officials say the cost for trash service should be lower for everyone if one company gets the job and it will reduce the number of trucks on city streets.

Trash service for businesses is not included.

About eight years ago, an attempt to have one trash hauler for all of Grand Traverse County was rejected.
