The S.S. Badger’s season will be extended an extra two weeks to transport wind tower sections across Lake Michigan.  Lake Michigan Car Ferry said Tuesday it will keep running until November 2nd.

The car ferry’s fate is uncertain after that date.  The SS Badger is awaiting a decision by the Environmental Protection Agency to extend their permit to dump coal ash slurry into the lake, a toxic byproduct.  Retrofitting the car ferry to run on natural gas or diesel may be too costly. The permit is set to expire at the end of the season.
