They call themselves the Y Trio because the letter Y has three points, they all have Ys in their names and Y stands for youth – and therefore, energy. But as accomplished as they are in playing classical music, they're still pretty typical 16 year-olds. At a recent practice session, they took a little time to do each other's hair, laugh a lot and even make fun of each other. The pianist – Chao Jun Yang – and the violinist – Yue Qian – like to gang up on the cellist – Yanwen Chen. They often make fun of her nose.

Yanwen says her friends tell her her nose looks, "... like a dinosaur's nose. Or, 'Look at you, you are like a pig.'"

But Chow June says that they aren't really trying to be mean.

Chao Jun laughs and says, "We like to make fun of her but it's just, like, friendly (laughs)."

The trio's coach is Interlochen cello instructor Cris Campbell. Cris says they have a bright career ahead of them.

Cris says, "The fact that they're 16 years-old and like three puppies rolling aorund half the time they're also very serious so they have that abiity to be all business on stage. It's great."
