Viewers of the national television show Good Morning America have voted Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore the "Most Beautiful Place in America."

In an interview this morning with ABC, famed TV Chef Mario Batali, a part-time Leelanau County resident, talked of the region's beauty and culinary treasures.

"It's a remarkable it its beauty, in the people, in the farmland, in the way that they conserve their beautiful nature," Batali says. "It is a remarkable place. And it's kind of like Mayberry. It's just a perfect little place."

"Mayberry with cherries, Mario," the host responded.

ABC says tens-of-thousands of votes were cast for Sleeping Bear Dunes in the annual contest.
