A fixture in Elk Rapids since the 1970s is in need of serious repair. Caution tape surrounds the massive swan seated on US 31, next to the Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce building.

Executive Director Shiela Marker says the damage is from years of wear and tear, and vandalism from a few years ago.

"So that's why the caution tape is around there," he says. "We're trying to have her fixed before the summer season starts so people can come have their pictures taken."

The repairs will cost $2,200 dollars. Marker says chamber board members have already pledged $500 dollars.

Marker calls the swan "Tuloola." To find out why, play the audio above for IPR's conversation with the Chamber director.
