This is the time of year for mortar boards and Pomp and Circumstance. Graduates can also participate in a new tradition tomorrow afternoon and evening.

The pow wow is an ancient tradition among native American peoples in northern Michigan and elsewhere.

But the graduation pow wow is only in its second year, hosted by the school, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and the SEEDS after-school programs.

It's open to the public at Suttons Bay High School tomorrow afternoon and evening. Festivities run until 9:00pm. Dinner will be served 5:00-7:00pm, with dancing and drumming ceremonies taking place before and after dinner.
