The new children's book, "Crossings," starts with a young boy on a train.

As he heads toward northern Michigan, the ghostly figure of a Native American eases the boy out of the car.

Together, they fly above the train, and the Native American teaches the boy about northern Michigan land, people and history.

Patti Aiken worked with kids at the Charlevoix area hospital.
