    Visit the Interlochen Farmers Market on Sunday, May 12 at Interlochen Corners at the Interlochen Shopping Center at the grassy, tree lined area between Northwestern Bank and M-137.   Hours are 9am to 2pm every Sunday through the last Sunday in October.  There are 57 vendors at this market this year.     Come to the Family 5K and Doggie Dash sponsored by Charlevoix Area Hospital and its School Nurse Program on Saturday, June 1. This event has fun for the whole family - pets too! In addition to the scenic 5K route, a variety of activities will be offered throughout the morning, including yoga, hula hooping, karate, dancing, and face painting.     Bus Days to Big Sable Point Lighthouse - Meet at the Old Visitors Center, located ahead of the entrance to Ludington State Park on M116 in Ludington. Buses run approximately every half hour throughout the event. Bus Days are SPLKA's way of making the breathtaking Big Sable Point Lighthouse more accessible for all visitors. The traditional 2 mile walk out to and back from the light can be offset by riding an LMTA, handicap accessible van through the sands to the parking lot in front of the Lighthouse. Transport will cost visitors $2 each way (or $1 each way for children) and helps to offset the costs of SPLKA's rental of the buses. The lighthouse, gift shop and tower are all open on those days and evenings for your viewing, climbing and shopping experience!

    The village of Kingsley and the Kingsley Friends of the Library are again sponsoring the “Adams Fly Festival”. The festival will take place at Brownson Park and the Kingsley Branch Library in the village of Kingsley on Saturday, June 1. Events begin at 1pm and conclude at 7pm. This year the festival will feature all aspects of fly fishing with fly tying demonstrations, casting demonstrations, tying and casting lessons, displays of river boats and fly fishing equipment, local artists, outdoor clubs, Streamside Orvis, Northern Outfitters, and the legendary fly rod maker Bob Summers. On display in the library will be the film “The Making of the Adams Fly,” displays of antique fishing flies and equipment, and local historians. Most activities and events are free. Many items and services available for purchase. Microbrew tent admission $20.00 – includes Adams Fly Pint Glass and two brew tokens. First 200 entering the food and brew tent receive an authentic Adams Fly.

The audition involves singing the first verse of "America the Beautiful" and performing simple vocal exercises.     The US Coast Guard Auxiliary of TC is offering a Paddle Craft Safety Course that is open to the public, in hopes of making this summer a safe boating season for Michigan.  The class will be held on Tuesday, June 4 from 6-9pm at First Congregational Church at 6105 Center Rd., TC.  The course will be taught by John Heiam and Lois Goldstein, experienced leaders from the Traverse Area Paddle Club.

    This is an evening class covering canoe and kayak safety, emergency procedures, regulations, selection of boats and gear and a general intro to paddlesports in northern Michigan.  The fee is $10 to cover the cost of the textbook.  Please call Dianne Walker at 941.8076 for more information or to sign up for this course.

    May 28-December 1, at the Benzie Area Historical Museum in Benzonia. Lilacs Bloom'd: Civil War Remembrances. Through a display of artifacts, letters, and photographs, the exhibit demonstrates how the Civil War (1861-1865) impacted the lives of the people who came to live in the Benzie area, and explores how our understanding of the Civil War is influenced by the Grand Army of the Republic and Bruce Catton.

    The Leelanau Artists at the Old Art Building in Leland will host their thirteenth Annual Exhibition on May 31 through June 2, 2013. This exhibition represents the work of a group of visual artists who meet weekly to paint at the Old Art Building. Some work in oils while others use watercolors, pastels, acrylics and other media. The purpose of the group is to participate in the imaginative and challenging creative process and to enjoy the camaraderie and inspiration of fellow artists. The opening reception is Friday, May 31 from 5 to 7:30pm and is open to the public. The exhibit will continue on Saturday, June 1 from 10am to 6pm and Sunday, June 2 from 11am to 5pm. This group of artists is an affiliate group of the Leelanau Community Cultural Center and supports the programs and operation of the Old Art Building.

    Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts (OAC) will be hosting an exhibition of contemporary artists Janet Grissom (painting) and Tom Radca (sculpture, ceramics) in its Beck Gallery alongside works by Oliver Art Center members in the Borwell Gallery from June 7 until July 7. There will be an opening reception from 6pm – 8pm on Friday, June 7. Like the reception, the galleries are free of admission.
